Carol Da Riva grew up between São Paulo, one of the biggest cities in the world, and the Amazon, where her family created a project in the same year she was born.
Life in the city and the career choices her family wanted her to take, and friends were taking weren’t for her, she wanted a different pathway. She wanted a life of adventure and nature connection.
She quit three universities and later invested in her passion for photography. That was the tool she needed to achieve her goal. Travel the world and learn from traditional communities with the mission of trying to preserve our planet, its natural resources, and its indigenous knowledge.
She met Pak Edu, who was also unhappy in his law career and wanted to be a writer. They decided to become partners as documentary journalists.
Together they traveled on assignments to more than 30 countries documenting culture, ethnic minorities, environment, tourism, arts, and architecture for magazines like National Geographic.
The journey was full of challenges. They had freedom and the dream job, but no financial security.
Carol will share her journey and the learnings of living a life align with dreams and values, with no fear of what society told her to do as a child.
The Pathways Talk series is happening on 17 May, from 12:40 – 1:20 pm
