CORNUCOPIA – ‘Buddhist’ Philosophy for a Fast-Paced and Ever Evolving World: The Law of Cause and Effect – Guy Mullens
November 28, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
In our ever evolving and fast-paced world, Buddhism has become hot cake. Be it at home, on the work floor or in schools, the ancient teachings of the Buddha seem to have become mainstream fare. But what is Buddhism really, and what teachings form the base of this trendy and popular philosophy?
Who was ‘the Buddha’ and what did he really teach? The profound insights of this man, this prince turned monk, seems to have largely been forgotten, sprouting many philosophies and beliefs. But what part, if any, of these undertakings relate to the original wisdom of the man called the Buddha?
This talk will delve into the key concepts expounded by the Buddha and show how the law of cause and effect –central to the Buddha’s teachings– can relate to our modern-day world.
Having studied the Sutta Pitaka and the Abhidhamma at certain length, as well as having had some practical experience of the so-called ‘eightfold path’, Guy feels it is important to shed some light on Siddhartha’s words, his teachings and their original context.
