Supporting The Women Of Bali
March 29, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am
Come and learn about these two amazing projects that are helping women and kids in Bali.
Kim Farr founded Bali Streets Mums, a project that provides a safe house for impoverished children and mothers who are begging on the streets of urban Bali.
Ibu Sari Polen dedicated her life to helping vulnerable women and children in Bali after her own experience of going through a divorce and not being allowed to see her daughter for 12 years.
Bali Streets Mum’s project
No child should have to sell tissues on the streets 10 hours a day in the hot sun. No young girl should have to beg at the traffic lights, late at night. A nine-year-old boy should not be sold to a boss for slave labor and locked in a cage at night.
Two sisters sold by their Uncle to traffickers. A baby grows up under a bridge. These are Bali stories and the reality of many children living in poverty in Bali. Bali Street Mums Project provides refuge and a safe house for many of these children. https://balistreetmums.org/
Kim Farr founded Bali Street Mums Project in 2015 when my son was attending the Green School. Bali Street Mums Project provides a safe house for impoverished children and mothers who are begging on the streets of urban Bali. It is a home and sanctuary for children that we have rescued from trafficking and abuse. The project also provides schooling, meals, and medical aid for the children who live in the slum areas and Denpasar rubbish dump. Our social enterprise provides training, skills, and support for the mothers who then can eventually earn an income to support their children.
PKP Women’s Centre
The PKP Women’s Centre has an overall goal to facilitate female empowerment and gender equality to Balinese women and girls in the local area. The centre empowers women by facilitating job skills training and support programs like cooking and English class. But most importantly, the women’s centre provides a safe haven for divorced women who are generally highly stigmatized and ostracized in the community.

The PKP Women’s Center provides a safe haven for divorced Balinese women who are highly stigmatized in the community by providing training and jobs to help the women gain independence again.
Ibu Sari dedicated her life to helping vulnerable women and children in Bali after her own experience of going through a divorce and not being allowed to see her daughter for 12 years. Regardless of the circumstances of divorce in Bali, it is very difficult for women to be accepted back into their communities and rebuild a life afterward. Suffering severe depression Ibu Sari decided to turn her adversity around and went back to school.
