It’s Time We Talked – Sex Ed Workshop for Caring Adults – Gen Lean
October 2, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
If you are a parent or carer of a child, tween, or teen and would like to talk to your young person about puberty, relationships, crushes, feelings, being safe, bodies, boundaries, consent, sex, sexuality, gender, sexy stuff online, pornography, etc… you may wish to attend this workshop. As parents and carers, you are your young person’s most trusted and influential “teachers” and most valued source of information, support, and care. Gen’s workshop aims to complement your role and support you in easier and more comfortable conversations about sexy stuff with young people. “It’s Time We Talked” includes sexual health information and tips and ideas for when to talk, how to talk, what to say, and why it’s time we talked with young people about sexy stuff. Let’s work together to talk about sexy stuff in a way that prepares and protects young people.
This course is for parents and carers of young people in primary and middle school.
Genevieve Lean (Gen) has been living in Bali for almost five years, working as a sexual health educator and coach. She is passionate and dedicated to teaching sexy stuff and aims to remain curious and open-minded and to continue her own learning every day. Gen says it is an absolute privilege to do this work and that she feels so grateful to have the trust, support, and encouragement of so many people. Gen is also the mum of a tween and teen, so she is on this parenting journey with you. Why does Gen talk about and teach sexy stuff? Before living in Bali, she worked in Australia for 15 years as a sexual health nurse in a busy inner-city clinic and as a sexual health educator with both young people and adults. During this time, she heard story after story from people who had not had access to “real” and relevant sexual health information and who wanted to learn. Often the stories she heard were from people who had been in a risky situation, had a negative experience, or felt lost or needed treatment. Most stories came from a lack of information and a society of taboo, stigma, and discomfort. So, what to do? Being in Bali, she decided to go back to the start and play a part in changing this all-too-common negative sexuality education script. And so here she is, offering private appointments and small group teaching and learning in a way that normalizes sexual health and prepares, protects, and empowers people. An in line with extensive research, Gen understands that regardless of our age, stage, experience, cultural or linguistic background, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or spiritual beliefs or abilities, we all need sexual health information, and she is passionate and driven to make this happen. She takes a positive approach to sexuality being a natural, healthy, and pleasurable aspect of being human.
The seats are limited to 15 people only.
