Vocal for Local/Ibu Bali – Yuka (Ni Nyoman Ayu Krisna Dewi)
I am proud of my Balinese heritage and culture, however, I know our culture is not very female-friendly. Girls often marry very young and once married, they move in with the husband’s family. Even if the marriage doesn’t work out, and children are involved, most girls/women won’t leave their husbands’ house, since this means they would have to leave their children behind, because the children have to stay at the house of the man. Girls/women are often not able to finish school or follow further education, they have to work until they give birth and after giving birth they are no longer allowed to work but have to stay at home and serve the family of the husband. Due to the current global pandemic, the situation has worsened a lot. All schools are closed and offer only online classes. Unfortunately, most people have no internet, let alone computers, and can therefore not attend school anymore. This pandemic has disastrous impacts on people all around the world but here in Bali, it has left especially girls and women powerless, uneducated, in poverty, and in extreme emotional distress. Now more than ever I realize how incredibly fortunate I am, and seeing these Balinese girls and women struggling, hurts me. I feel the need to do something for the Balinese girls and women, I want to empower them, help them. I believe these women deserve to show their skills, be empowered, and build a better living for themselves, their children, and their families. —With all the concerns of the pandemic, fewer job opportunities available, this project is intended to provide a source of income to Balinese women and teens by teaching them certain skills and by that, provide proper education for girls. Not to mention to keep the business transparent and sustainable.
Where do I need help?: Starting points, because I tend to have/want a lot of things to do all at once and that has messes/postponed this for a long time. Because I do not know where/how to start.
The Toxic Impact of Society – Barbara Majtanova
We can all agree that we grew up differently. Is our personality conflicted? And is it affected by the environment? We all are affected by everything that is happening around us. But are younger people more affected by it. We were all babies at one point some of you may have been more curious than clothes you loved putting different things in your mouth. So to summer up what is my project about. In the short form, I’m focusing on a child’s development. How the different elements, environment and society can affect your future behavior and decision. A creative and fun way of learning more about children’s psychology also creating fun activities to teach the basics. Helping mothers around the Green school campus to feel more comfortable, safe, and understood.
Where do I need help?: I haven’t been really facing an insoluble struggle. The biggest one I have been facing definitely impacted most of us and that’s the current situation. Most of the problems created have been mainly happening because of the virus. One of these has been affecting my research quite a bit. I definitely should’ve thought about this, but is not something I can’t solve. It might be a bit harder to make sure all the moms are comfortable letting their kids be around others. I will have to be following all the protocols the school has established. It will definitely be a bit harder to make sure even the little ones follow them.
