Using a Digital ‘Superhero’ in Environmental Activism – Clara Listya Dewi
February 12, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Several Indonesian governors recently and boldly banned single use plastic. These regulations are critical to reducing ocean plastic waste, but will be effective only if accompanied by a change in attitude, culture and behavior about plastic use and the value of the local physical, social and cultural environment. Our initiative focuses on an environmental Indonesian superhero we just co-created with the community. The superhero is an ordinary schoolgirl who harnesses her inner powers to face environmental challenges. We will co-create an adventure around strengthening the connection between cultural pride and environmental activism for the purpose of deepening children’s understanding of how plastic waste is harming oceans and reducing consumption of single use plastic.
Hello, I’m Ni Nyoman Clara Listya Dewi from Bali, Indonesia. You can call me Nyoman or Clara. Now I’m working at BASAbali Wiki foundation as Communication Director. Initiated “Wiki Goes To” an outreach program to engage students to take responsibility for their environment. In addition, I am also an Ambassador of the National Language and Reading Ambassador of the Province of Bali who has a duty to help improve literacy levels in my area. When I was in college, I was active in organizing and had served as the student president on my campus, Udayana University. I like issues about education and the environment. I am also interested in studying the culture of other regions or countries. During my free time, I like to read books, do discussion, join workshop and dance traditional dances. I am sure that through this program, I can contribute long term in improving the environment especially in my home town. Even though I may not be a superhero of myself, as a young female Indonesian, I can inspire other young people and children.
