Thoughts on Building Relationships with Students and Distance Learning – Jesse Driver
May 27, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
This event is hosted by the Green Educator Course.
As many schools around the world are still implementing distance learning, it is the perfect time for us to reflect back and re-evaluate what is the true meaning of school and learning for children, especially during this pandemic. In this session, we will discuss what are the different learning approaches of progressive education that we can implement, how to make distance learning more enjoyable and how to build relationships with students while nurturing them as independent learners at the same time.
Jesse Driver’s international teaching career spans 15 years and 4 continents. He is a strong advocate for student autonomy and project-based learning. During his time at Green School Bali, he has created many different classes that align with this value. He created Flow, a class where students get extended personal project time, and one on one conferencing about their concepts. He created IDEA class, (which stands for Inquiry, Dialogue, Ethics, and Action), where students align their values with a project and learn from community members who do the same. He currently teaches Make/Play, an art class where students create, design, and play their own board games. Even in distance learning, he has been successful in inspiring students to take on their own projects and become self-guided learners.
