Nature as a Classroom – K Ramnath Chandrasekhar – The Green Leadership Series
September 16 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Ram has traveled the length and breadth of India since his middle school days to photo-document its natural and cultural heritage. This 16-year journey taught him human values, environment conservation, and citizen action. He believes that ‘nature is a classroom’. Through photographs and short video clips, he will take us on a journey from the rainforests of the Western Ghats Mountains to the high peaks of the Himalayas, and, from along the River Ganges to remote corners of India’s far North East. These will be connected to ways children can take part to nurture a sustainable planet for us (which includes forests and wildlife), and for our future generations. This one-hour interactive session will include his talk followed by a Q&A with the participants.
Ram is a Practitioner with 13 years of experience in conceptualizing and implementing Earth education programs for schools. He uses films, photo stories, and experiential learning to nurture empathy and participation among children and youth to protect our planet’s natural heritage. He is a published columnist in The Hindu Metro Plus, a supplement of one of India’s leading news dailies. As a 2017-18 Leadership Fellow at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, he traveled to six countries in the Asia-Pacific region to understand the challenges and opportunities to improve ecological literacy in schools. Ram’s expertise is in community organizing, oral storytelling, experiential learning facilitation, program management, nature photography, and documentary filmmaking.
