CROSSING THE BRIDGE – Women Earth Alliance: Seeds to Table & Farm Box – Ida Rahayu / Audria Evelinn
November 20, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Women Earth Alliance (WEA), equips women with the skills and tools they need to protect our Earth and strengthen communities from the inside out, catalyzing the efforts of 22 Indonesian women leaders protecting their communities and ecosystems from environmental/climate threats like palm oil extraction, plastic pollution, and sea-level rise. We would be discussing two of the projects that are based on Bali: Seeds to Table at Local Bali Schools by Ida Rahayu and Little Soon Farm Box by Audria Evelinn
Come and join us if you would like to learn more about how two Indonesian women empower the local community by educating Balinese future generation sustainable lifestyle and empower local farmers by increasing the economic benefits of those who practice organic and eco-friendly farming.
Ida Rahayu is a teacher at Green School Bali since 2012. Having the opportunity to understand deeper about Permaculture drove her to develop the Seeds to Table Program. Based in permaculture ethics and principles, Seeds to Table both works to provide education about the health-based and environmental impacts of people’s eating habits, and strives to minimize waste by teaching students to grow and cook their own food. Ida has thus far run this program in several local Balinese schools and hopes to expand to reach as many schools as possible throughout the country.
Audria Evelinn set up Little Spoon Farm, a greenhouse vegetable farm in Bali with an online platform for direct harvest orders, three years ago. From her farm, she shares sustainable crop growing methods for tropical plants, and facilitates a connection between local farmers and consumers. In addition to working towards a more cohesive local food system, Audria hopes to increase economic benefits for local farmers whose practices are organic and eco-friendly. She believes that the ecological healing process begins with a mindful connection between the seed and the plate. She sees vegetable and fruit harvests as not only sources of nourishment and medicine, but also as connections between humanity and the natural world.
