Indonesia has one of the fastest-growing HIV epidemics fuelled by a populous right-wing political rhetoric. The stigma of HIV in traditional cultures makes it an invisible epidemic. If we end the stigma, we have the capability to end AIDS (stop the fuel to the fire). This talk discusses the HIV epidemic, successes and challenges faced in promoting human rights and health equity in the endeavor to end AIDS.
Keerti is a consultant physician and researcher from London who specializes in HIV medicine. She’s worked as a physician, researcher, lecturer and educator in Southern Africa and India. Her work includes a focus on complications of HIV, sexually transmitted infections and tropical medicine; more recently on innovative health-delivery models of HIV prevention and digital health solutions in low-income countries. She is currently leading a UK-Indonesia collaborative project focused on translating a behavioral and medical model of HIV prevention to marginalized communities at risk of HIV in Indonesia.
