Women in Climate Change – Alice Garton
December 15, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Presentation by Alice Garton. Using the courts to drive change in the climate and biodiversity crises is fast becoming one of the most effective routes to system change. One of the world’s foremost experts on climate litigation, Alice Garton, Director of Global Legal Strategy at FILE Foundation, will be visiting the Green School to tell us more about this exciting frontier. The FILE Foundation is now supporting over 400 climate cases globally, against governments, carbon majors, and financial institutions, including many of which are led by brave youth plaintiffs. Come and learn how you can get involved and perhaps one day even become a climate litigation lawyer yourself!
Alice Garton is the director of FILE’s Global Legal Strategy and was previously Head of Climate at Europe’s leading environmental law charity, ClientEarth following 15 years as a lawyer in large commercial firms in Australia and the UK.
Alice has substantial experience using legal advocacy and litigation to accelerate government policies and corporate investment strategies that are consistent with a zero-emissions future.
Alice is also a non-Executive Director for InfluenceMap, was a co-founder of the Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative, and has held board or advisory positions with numerous other NGOs including Europe Beyond Coal.
