Sacred Life of Rice – TRULY BALI Experience
February 16, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm
Discover, understand and experience the sacred process of the rice you eat in Bali.
Rice, to the Balinese, is more than just the staple food; it is an integral part of the Balinese culture. The rituals of the cycle of planting, maintaining, irrigating, and harvesting rice enrich the cultural life of Bali beyond a single staple can ever hope to do.
The water level in each section is perfect; little streams of water effortlessly flow from the highest section up on top of the hill to the very bottom section. The planning and responsibility of the irrigation and planting schedule are arranged through Subak, a Balinese system that ties together rice cultivation with its water temple system. Historical evidence dates this system to around the 11th century, yet the yield per acre of a Balinese rice field is about the highest in the world!
Experience the process of rice farming, all the way to your plate. Join us and immerse yourself, to appreciate the centuries-old connection between the Balinese and nature. You will also have the opportunity to involve yourself in daily Balinese life.
The TRULY BALI Experiences is an initiative of some of our LSP parents that have put together a series of real “insider gem” experiences. A unique opportunity for you to discover Bali with those who know it the best. This is the first of a series that will happen every Thursday, for the entirety of the first term. An amazing way to learn about Bali and its amazing culture, support the local families, the LSP students, and also keep our community connected and engaged.
