Green Stone Sharing Session 2023-24

As our graduates enter their final year we come together as a community to support the preparation for their Green Stone presentations in June.

The Bridge is hosting multiple meetings, and in each of them, 4 students will share their path, and their challenges, and we will have the opportunity to offer them guidance, suggestions, and most of all love and strength in such an important period of their lives.

A requirement for every Green School graduate is a capstone project, known as Green Stone. Green Stone is a year-long inquiry and process where students demonstrate a mastery of core skills and Green School skills. This can be a passion project, an area of interest, or a solution to a real-world problem. The Green Stone experience culminates in a 13-minute TED-style talk the week before graduation. It is a life-changing experience and prepares every student for their next adventure and arguably for the rest of their life. Green Stone is a process and an experience that not only develops skills but also provides a platform to demonstrate mastery of those skills.

Projects For This Day

Jordan – The FORGE Initiative
This project has two parts.
Part a// Constructing a blacksmithing area including a forge, anvil, and vital equipment in the IHub. Also, setting up the infrastructure for classes to continue to be taught after I leave, and drumming up enthusiasm for the craft while I’m here (easy peasy).
Part b// Have a nice collection of my own handmade knives to present as a blade show during Greenstone

Where do I need help?  Only problem is organizing and finding a good avenue for fundraising

Seth – Understanding Purpose
A research project focusing on how individuals can live a fulfilling and purposeful life. The goal is to deepen my understanding and knowledge of the subject.

Where do I need help? I’m not sure what my actual project should be. So I hope that I can present some possible ideas and get some feedback from the parents.

Mariana – Date Safe not Date Rape
My project aims to spread awareness about the physical and psychological damages of ‘spiking’ which is also known as ‘roofies’ and ‘date rape drugs’. I hope to do this by anonymously interviewing people who have had their drinks spiked and their experiences. (if they’re willing to share) I want to create a jewelry piece that detects if date-rape drugs have been added to your drink. If this isn’t possible, I want to make a ring symbolic of the safety of people in these situations. I would like to partner with clubs and make them “safe clubs” by spreading awareness with posters in them so perpetrators become afraid of spiking drinks. I plan on doing a fundraiser and donating the money to an organization that supports victims of sexual assault.

Where do I need help? I need help figuring out the logistics and expenses of the jewelry piece, what organization to support, and what fundraiser to set up.

Eden – The Art of Conversation
Extroverted or not, we humans communicate. It’s life, we talk. Nowadays, it’s almost as if we talk only when we need to, and then we go back to our screens to text someone about the next thing ahead of us. We just type and don’t talk. But here’s the art of conversation – an ability through which we open our minds, present our personalities, and share stories. It’s about understanding people’s experiences or simply discussing what they did over the weekend. Sometimes, all it takes is starting with small talk with the person catching the bus next to you. The time is now to resume and restore the conversations we were having before we took it to text people. Let events or meetings bring people’s stories, ideas, and passions together again. It’s innate, intrinsic, and an indispensable part of human nature.

Where do I need help?  Contacts: Psychologists, people who love having conversations. Individuals experienced in leading or facilitating conversations. Raising awareness.

Leander Tell – Surf Shelter Bali
Bali is a Paradise Destination. Most people come here, to spend their vacation in luxurious hotels, relax at the beach, and enjoy the incredible nature. But for the exploited street kids Bali is hell. The kids are kidnapped and trafficked, abused, tortured, and forced to beg on the streets. Helpless. However, organizations help to get these kids from the streets and provide them with a home and dignity. With Bali Surf Shelter I want to expand this and give them another community they can feel safe and protected in. I would like to give these kids the opportunity to learn how to surf and develop skills and confidence that will get them far in life. With the potential, this reaches more communities across the world.

Where do I need help? IT, advertisement, funding, volunteers, etc.
