Green Stone Sharing Session 2023-24

As our graduates enter their final year we come together as a community to support the preparation for their Green Stone presentations in June.

The Bridge is hosting multiple meetings, and in each of them, 5 students will share their path, and their challenges, and we will have the opportunity to offer them guidance, suggestions, and most of all love and strength in such an important period of their lives.

A requirement for every Green School graduate is a capstone project, known as Green Stone. Green Stone is a year-long inquiry and process where students demonstrate a mastery of core skills and Green School skills. This can be a passion project, an area of interest, or a solution to a real-world problem. The Green Stone experience culminates in a 13-minute TED-style talk the week before graduation. It is a life-changing experience and prepares every student for their next adventure and arguably for the rest of their life. Green Stone is a process and an experience that not only develops skills but also provides a platform to demonstrate mastery of those skills.

Harper – Theatre Therapy
An expansion on Voices and Vday, using performing arts as a Form of therapy. Bringing the story of Bali (related to Voices) Into a performance.

Saras – The Cycle of Food
Inspiring the young generation mainly in one of the primary schools in Denpasar about the sustainable solution that I have been practicing at home with my family. In Bali, I observed the lack of awareness of waste management in the community. By sharing knowledge and inspiring them to implement the cycle of 3 things which are gardening, cooking, and waste management would be one of the solutions. My goal is to encourage students to implement these 3 sustainable practices in their daily lives. To improve their skills in gardening, cooking, and managing waste. The students can also inspire their surroundings to make a change and be part of the change maker.

Where do I need help? I need support in techniques for managing classes with a large number of participants. I am looking for experts in the fields of waste management, gardening, and cooking Indonesian food to ask for pieces of advice.

Ella – Waste Reimagined “Bringing Out The Hidden Beauty Of The Overlooked “
As I go about in my everyday life, I view the world through an artistic lens. I always wonder how I can bring seemingly dull items to life with just a bit of color and imagination, highlighting their hidden beauty through my creativity. Seeing the rubbish in the streets and beaches of Bali, I can’t help but wonder if I could also turn something that people tend to frown upon into something beautiful that people would appreciate. My green stone project aims to encourage people to rethink their bias towards waste through the creation of various sculptures and art pieces which I hope to display in public spaces on the island.

Where do I need help?  For the creation of the art pieces: space/ workshop space + materials/ tools to create my work Donations to purchase unavailable tools To raise awareness of my work and raise funds for the voluntary waste collection organization: Public spaces (e.g. cafes, hotels, resorts, restaurants) to display individual pieces Art gallery/ large community space to display and sell the entire collection

Noor – Threads of Resilience
My Project Thread of Resilience is a fashion collection. I want to highlight the story of the Indian prostitutes who shine despite what they are going through. I want this collection to express their courage and resilience by connecting Indian traditional clothes in a modern way for women who live in the present.

Where do I need help? I feel like I need help in the process of designing the collection and actually bringing the pieces to life.

Gusde – Umadaya – Energy of the Land
Umadaya in Balinese translates to “land energy”. I am aiming to cultivate and grow an agricultural community in a Subak in Mas, Ubud. After understanding the issues faced by farmers in the area, this community will be a space for farmers to learn regenerative farming and tap into renewable energy through a pico-hydro system that allows them to power their devices. Implementing creative solutions that farmers actually benefit from and can use and changing society’s perspective of farmers to be the eco-warriors that they are.
