Green Stone Mingle – Come and Support our Grade 12 Students

March 18 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

As our graduates enter their final semester we come together as a community to support the preparation for their Green Stone presentations in June.

The Bridge is hosting multiple meetings, and in each of them, 4 students will share their path, their challenges and we will have the opportunity to offer them guidance, suggestions, and most of all love and strength in such an important period of their lives.

A requirement for every Green School graduate is a capstone project, known as Green Stone. Green Stone is a year-long inquiry and process where students demonstrate a mastery of core skills and Green School skills. This can be a passion project, an area of interest, or a solution to a real-world problem. The Green Stone experience culminates in a 13-minute TED-style talk the week before graduation. It is a life-changing experience and prepares every student for their next adventure and arguably for the rest of their life. Green Stone is a process and an experience that not only develops skills but also provides a platform to demonstrate mastery of those skills.

PROJECTS FOR THIS DAY

Fixing My Broken Mould – Nikita Pettigrew

For my project I’ll be looking into why I have a fear of rejection when it comes to my passions such as dance and music. I’ll be looking into why I feel the need to hide the things I am good at, along with that, I am also in the middle of writing a song, which I will later record and dance to during my greenstone performance.

Where do I need help?: I need help with understanding the psychology of fear.

Comfort in Discomfort – Tarn Hutton

MY project is about finding to comfort in uncomfortable situations. I am going to live with a tribe in the Mentawais and see what it is like living without the luxuries I have learnt to live with. The theory of enjoying discomfort is very interesting to me and I believe that some of the best experiences and most growth come from it.

Where do I need help?: Writing the script.

A Battle between Purpose and Art – Zalan Kaman

My goal throughout my Green Stone journey is to turn conventional designs upside down and force people to take a different perspective. Part of this being that I don’t want to limit myself to common mediums, and rather using the open-ended nature of contemporary art to create pieces that are hard to categorize. I am interested in flipping traditional and common fashion and furniture concepts as well as toying with purpose and functionality. I am inspired by the Dada movement, and how the First World War drove many artists into this nonsensical and satirical movement. Man Ray’s Cadeau, for instance, embodies the purposelessness that I want to exhibit. Alongside the loss of purpose, I want to emphasize the creation of new function with my art. All of these pieces that I plan to make will serve as a check to our traditional perspectives, and mix art with design and furniture in a statement against conformity.

Where do I need help?: Talk with someone who actuals design art or clothes, any furniture that isn’t needed, cool materials to work with, etc.
