Gotong Royong in Sibang: Strengthening the Neighborhood in the Balinese Way
April 13 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am

Before the school break, the parents involved in the Sibang Asri for All (SAUS) initiative held a productive meeting where we outlined our first action in the area we mapped in Sibang.
We’ve decided to embrace a local tradition called Gotong Royong, a cornerstone of Balinese culture that plays a key role in fostering community bonds. Gotong Royong involves voluntary, collective efforts aimed at various purposes, such as improving the community, organizing ceremonies, supporting fellow residents, cleaning streets, sharing resources for collective projects, or assisting in recovery after disasters. For the SAUS initiative, we’re starting small by gathering every Sunday for street clean-up around GS campus.
Our first Gotong Royong event will take place this Sunday, April 13th. In keeping with Balinese tradition, we’ll begin early at 7:00 AM, aligning with the time locals typically dedicate to community activities. By doing this, we hope to encourage more local participation each week.
qWe will meet at Kembali and walk together through the area we’ve mapped for this initial phase of the initiative. At the end of the clean-up, we’ll return to Kembali to drop off the collected materials, and then we can head to Baja Deli to have breakfast together.
