Fun and Easy Home/Classroom Sustainability Projects – Andy Ashton
June 6, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Come and join Andy Ashton, one of Green School Bali teachers to gain and share inspiration on some awesome DIY, hands-on projects that integrate science, math, sustainability and other elements at the same time. This can be useful and applicable for teachers, parents, students or whoever is interested in being more productive when stuck at home or doing distance learning, anywhere in the world.
We will discuss projects that can be done at home with all family members big and small, getting them activated and inspired. We will look at how to turn scrap materials and waste at home into something of value, including a simple DIY greenhouse, making microgreens in your kitchen, raised garden bed design, chicken houses, gardening in small spaces and pots and much more. It will be a chance to join a private tour of Andy’s backyard which is filled with amazing ‘green’ projects and experiments, engage in Q&A discussion and network with like-minded people around the world!

Andy is a bearded Grade 4 teacher at Green School Bali who loves turning trash into treasure. He is passionate about teaching kids to be self-sufficient, creative and busy and to make their ideas come to life. Andy has a background in teaching and gardening stretching back a while. He has owned his own gardening business, worked on tiny Australian islands and been involved in recovery efforts following natural disasters. After nearly 20 years of teaching primary students, Andy has some great tips to pass on to educators about some fun projects you can do with kids. As a life-time gardener and tinkerer, he has some easy projects for people stuck in their homes, and looking for something sustainable to do. And as a father, he knows how bored kids can get with their dad’s projects, so has some easy tips to keep them engaged. If you like gardening, backyard projects, kids, eating veggies and getting your hands dirty- come along!
