Trauma Informed Care: Why It Matters – Arleen & Mark Tyndall
November 3, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Drug use is pervasive in our society. Instead of acknowledging the root causes of drug use, we have shamed and criminalized the people who use drugs. While drug dependency may seem like an extreme example of coping with trauma, we can learn from this as parents to improve our own family connections.
Dr. Mark Tyndall is an infectious disease and public health physician who has worked in the field of HIV prevention and care. Much of his work has been with people who use drugs and he has championed innovative harm-reduction strategies to make drug use safer.
Arleen Tyndall has worked as a frontline clinical pharmacist for the provincial HIV program providing treatment and outreach support to patients and healthcare team members. Trauma-informed care education became a necessity at work and the realization that this was applicable to our personal relationships and parenting has motivated change in their family.
