Join us for a meaningful morning at the Sangkep—cultural conversation, and traditional cooking done together on the spot.
We’ll begin with inspiring conversations about Balinese parenting, the banjar system, and the other cultural insight—then move straight into the heart of it all: the kitchen! Right at the Sangkep, we’ll cook lawar and other ceremonial dishes using time-honored techniques. Finally, we’ll sit down together and enjoy the food we’ve prepared—just like in a banjar gathering.
Live Ngelawar Cooking at the Sangkep
Lawar is a traditional Balinese dish made by combining finely chopped vegetables—such as young papaya or long beans—with grated coconut, herbs, and a rich blend of Balinese spices known as base genep.
While some versions include minced meat or even animal blood, vegetarian lawar is commonly made for everyday meals or adapted to suit modern diets and inclusive gatherings. Despite the variations, Lawar always represents balance, community, and the deeply rooted tradition of preparing food together—especially during ceremonies and communal events like Ngelawar.
This is going to be an authentic Balinese ngelawar activity, guided by the Ibu-ibu and Bapak-bapak from the Community team. Let’s practice our Bahasa here.
Ps. Please wear simple Balinese attire: shirt and sarong.
